LGBT Cultural Studies MinorThe LGBT minor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette explores historical and current issues impacting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities, thus allowing students interested in issues of sexual orientation and gender identity the opportunity to learn about them. With the large list of available courses, we encourage broad interdisciplinary study and promote critical analysis of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender sexualities and identities. Through their studies, students will investigate cultural traditions that have shaped our current understanding of sexuality and gender. LGBT studies have been an academic area of study in the United States for nearly 50 years and exist at some 200 universities in the United States in a variety of forms as courses, minors or degree programs. Studies of human subgroups help prepare students for careers, such as counselors, personnel directors, teachers, social workers, criminal justice professionals, health care providers, managers and those involved in pastoral care.
