Student-Led Support for the Unhoused
ASSIST WORKSHOP (Held April 23-24)
Mon, 04/27/2026 - 4:24pmApril 23–24 ASIST Workshop
The Sociology, Anthropology, and HDFS department continued its commitment to campus wellness by hosting our second ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) workshop of the semester. This intensive, two-day session focused on "suicide first aid," providing participants with practical, life-saving intervention techniques.
It was inspiring to see a broad cross-section of our university come together for the April 23–24 session. Participants from Athletics to Counseling and Testing, along with faculty, staff, and students, all committed their time and energy to making our campus a more aware and proactive community.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to The Family Tree and our expert facilitators for their expertise, and valuable guidance. Their knowledge ensures our campus community has the tools to recognize risk and the confidence to intervene effectively to keep others safe. With two successful workshops now completed this semester, we are proud of the growing network of trained individuals on our campus. Our goal remains to foster a proactive, supportive environment for everyone at UL Lafayette. If you are interested in participating in future sessions or want to learn more about upcoming wellness initiatives, please reach out to Kristen Kahanek at Kristen.Kahanek@louisiana.edu.
Together, we are building a safer, more aware and engaged community at UL Lafayette. Geaux Cajuns!
